original fiction feature film / 100' / Ukraine
The future.
Andriy (39) is a space pilot delivering radioactive waste from the Earth to the satellite of Jupiter. The entire mission takes four years - two years one way and two years back.
At first glance, Andriy is a closed and unfriendly person who feels better in space than among people. However, he hides his true self deep inside.
During the monotonous days, the only consolation for Andriy is to be creating his own world out of clay: figurines of superheroes and different characters.
There is only one workmate on the spaceship with Andriy ‒ an onboard computer Maksym, programmed to entertain Andriy. But over the years of being together, Maxim's jokes cause more irritation than laughter.
During his regular flight, Andriy witnesses the explosion of the Earth. His spaceship makes a miraculous escape from the deadly fragments of the planet, but he has no place to return to. Andriy is the last man in the entire universe
His food and oxygen supply will suffice for two years only, the ship's engines are broken, but what does it matter if there is nowhere to fly.
At first, Andriy calmly reacts to the destruction of the planet, because no one was waiting for him at home and he was used to being alone. Вut eventually his indifference turns into depression ‒ everything loses its meaning with the death of the planet, even his urge for loneliness and creativity.
However, the radio link springs to life one day, and Andriy hears a human voice! The voice of a confused, lonely woman, who survived after the catastrophe the same way he did. Her name is Catherine, and she is a French meteorologist from the orbital station LAPLACE that is situated in the vicinity of Saturn.
Virtual communication with Catherine gradually brings Andriy back to life ‒ he learns to communicate, rejoice, think, sympathize and create anew. Even an immense distance and three-hour connection delay failed to prevent the two last people in the Universe from getting closer.
During one of the conversations, Andriy realizes that the Catherine`s station is slowly losing altitude and will soon perish in Saturn's atmosphere. Without thinking long, Andriy decides to repair the ship and fly to rescue Catherine.
The on-board computer Maxim is categorically against the trip to Saturn, because it can kill Andriy, and the main goal of the robot is to save the pilot's life. However, for the first time, Andriy has a real goal and he`ll not back down from it. It`s vital for him to do something right at the end of his existence.
Despite the great danger, Andriy flies deep into space to save Catherine and fulfill her long-gone earthy dream: to see flying doves in the sky. Even if they are molded out of clay.
