POST-PRODUCTION GRANT PROGRAM
In 2023, the Ukrainian Film Academy, in collaboration with Netflix, announced a Post-Production Grant Program aimed at supporting Ukrainian creators both in Ukraine and worldwide who have been affected or displaced by the war, enabling them to continue and develop their work.
The program offered:
-
$10,000 for each of the 10 projects to cover post-production services for original Ukrainian feature-length fiction and documentary films (50 minutes or longer) in production or post-production at the time of application.
The following types of projects were eligible for the program:
-
Ukrainian feature-length fiction films
-
Ukrainian feature-length documentary films
Projects were evaluated by a panel of one Ukrainian and four international industry experts, including Alik Shpilyuk, film critic and scholar; Bernd Fischer, cinematographer, and director; Emilie George, producer; Ewa Puszczyńska, producer; and Niels Beekamp, director, showrunner, and executive producer of documentary films and series.
Also, in 2023, the New York Film Academy conducted an online post-production workshop in partnership with House of Europe.
The program was supported by Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity and is part of a broader initiative to help Ukrainian creators both in Ukraine and worldwide affected or displaced by the war to continue and develop their work. The program offered financial support and capacity-building assistance to Ukrainian creators.
Through a two-year collaboration with Netflix, and in partnership with the Ukrainian Film Academy, House of Europe, and EAVE, 200 professionals received scholarships, over 500 artists gained access to online training, and 48 creative teams received script development grants and online sessions with international industry experts, along with access to personalized script doctoring and project development sessions. Nine of these projects have already secured foreign partners and co-producers, four have obtained international funding, and one won the “Best Project” award at the Series Mania pitching session, marking an unprecedented success for a Ukrainian project. Many projects have been selected for presentation at numerous film festivals worldwide, including the Berlinale, the Göteborg Film Festival, and the WATCH DOCS International Film Festival.
